This policy explains what personal information Watch Collector Company Pty Ltd collects through this website and when you deal with us, how we use it, who we share it with, and how to contact us about it.

Watch Collector Company Pty Ltd (ABN 45 159 110 255), trading as The Watch Collector, Level 1, 20-22 McKillop St, Melbourne VIC 3000. We are a licensed second-hand dealer (licence SHD-0014410).

What we collect
When you send us an enquiry
The contact form asks for your name, email address, phone number and message.
The sell form asks for details of your watch (brand, model, reference, year, condition and what comes with it), your name, an email address or phone number, and up to three photos you choose to attach.
Both forms email these details to our inbox. The website itself does not store them. If you give an email address, you receive an automatic confirmation that we have your enquiry.
When you place an order
Checkout asks for your name, address, phone number and email address, and records the watch you ordered and how you want to receive it. Orders on this website are paid by direct bank transfer. We do not collect card details on this website. Order records are kept in our online store system.
When you buy from us, sell to us or consign a watch with us
We may ask for photo identification and other details that confirm who you are. We do this as part of our security checks and to meet the record-keeping rules that apply to licensed second-hand dealers.
When you browse the website
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used. It uses cookies and records information such as the pages you view, how you reached the site, your approximate location, and your device and browser. It also records actions such as sending a form or tapping our phone number. When you place an order, we send Google Analytics the order number, the watches ordered and the order value, but not your name or contact details. Google Analytics does not give us your name or contact details.
- Google Maps. Our contact page shows maps provided by Google. When a map loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives information such as your IP address.
- Shop cookies. The shop uses cookies to keep your cart and checkout working.
- Spam protection. Our forms keep a coded (hashed) form of your IP address for up to an hour to limit repeated submissions.
How we use your information
- to reply to your enquiry, and to value or quote on a watch;
- to process, deliver and support your order;
- to buy or consign your watch, and to keep the records the law requires;
- to prevent fraud and spam, and to keep the website secure;
- to understand how the website is used and improve it.
We do not sell your personal information. We only send you marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
Who we share it with
- companies that help us run the business, such as our website and email host, and couriers or insured transport services when we send a watch;
- Google, for Google Analytics and Google Maps, as described above;
- our professional advisers, such as our accountant, where needed;
- government agencies and police, where the law requires or allows it, including under the laws that apply to second-hand dealers.
Information held outside Australia
Our website is hosted in Australia. Google may process analytics and map information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry emails and order records for as long as we need them for the reason they were collected, and for as long as the law requires, including tax and second-hand dealer record-keeping rules. Google Analytics keeps detailed usage data for up to 14 months.
Keeping it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to our store and inbox is limited to people who need it.
Cookies and your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can still browse the website without cookies, but the cart and checkout need them. To stop Google Analytics recording your visits, you can install Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Seeing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us using the details above. We will respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
