The 216570 is perhaps the most distinctive modern interpretation of Rolex’s purpose built tool watch. Introduced in 2011 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Explorer II, the reference brought the model to 42mm and, most notably, revived the bold orange 24 hour hand first associated with the original Explorer II.

Robust, highly legible and deliberately functional, the 216570 sits at an interesting point in the Explorer II’s evolution, retaining the traditional steel bezel and tool watch character while giving the model a more substantial modern presence. It was also the final Explorer II generation to use the calibre 3187, before the 226570 and calibre 3285 arrived in 2021.
