If fact, it was the first ever incarnation of the dive watch when it was released in 1953 a year before Rolex s submariner debut in 54 . Arguably the Fifty Fathoms (meaning 300ft in diving terms) is the world s most refined and purpose build dive watch. It has graced the wrists of diving legends, along side French Military and U.S Navy seals and was the passionate creation of of BlancPain s CEO from 1950-80, Jean-Jacques Fiechter who himself was a madly passionate diver. 

Today the technology in the Fifty-Fathoms is super high end. The doughnut shaped bezel has a curved surface and is made of sapphire crystal, which was an engineering feat in itself to manufacture. The movement is BlancPain s in house, epic 227 component, Cal.1315 automatic that features 3 barrels with an unheard of 100 hour power reserve in a dive watch. The strap is made of a high tech sail-canvas weave, combined with a beautifully engineered butterfly deployment buckle that is by far one of the most comfortable that we have ever experienced. 

Fifty Fathoms are super hard to find in Oz on the second hand market. This one here is an Australian Delivered Watch and is only a few months old. It comes with everything, including balance of Blancpain warranty and your name on the warranty card.
